Speaking in a Pleasant Voice

Speaking in a pleasant voice is a must if we wish to be heard.  All too often we think that if we want to be heard we need to speak in a voice that is either loud, harsh, or carries with it a twinge of threat (i.e. do what I say or else).  While in the short run those tactics may prove to be effective, in the long run, the people to whom we speak will not feel kindly towards us.  There is an old saying that goes “you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar”.  When we speak with a voice that has the sweetness of honey, people will be enthusiastic to hear our voices and listen to our words.  On the other hand, if we speak down on people, they may do our bidding out of fear, but when we are no longer in a position of authority, they will resent us and we’ll be on our own.  So whether its at home with your spouse and children, or in the office with employees or co-workers, speaking with a pleasant voice is the best way to be heard and get what you want.
