Learning to Love and Get Along with Ourselves and Others

Narrative Therapy with Michael White

Michael White founded the Narrative Therapy approach to counseling while working with the Aboriginal peoples of Australia.  Given its emphasis on cultural sensitivity and social justice, as well as its creative approach to problem solving, Narrative Therapy has gained a reputation as being theoretically solid, effective, and perhaps most importantly fun.

Narrative Therapy is now being used the world over to treat everything from eating disorders, to trauma and bereavement, to marriage and family counseling.

The following video, taken at the Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference, presents the great master of family therapy, Salvador Minuchin discussing Narrative Therapy with Micheal White.

The next two videos demonstrate several basic skills of Narrative Therapy, such as “Naming the Problem” and “The Absent but Implicit,” in the fun and creative way that characterizes Narrative Therapy.
