Learning to Love and Get Along with Ourselves and Others

Jon Kabat-Zinn on Mindfulness

Jon Kabat-Zinn is teaching us that mindfulness is the key to any and all relationships. Whether its the relationship we have with ourselves (our intra-personal relationship) or the relationships we have with others (our extra-personal relationships) we need to be mindful.  Mindfulness is about becoming aware of our  cognitive thoughts, physical sensations, emotive feelings, and spirit.

Dr. Kabat-Zinn, founder of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School has successfully integrated the spiritual field of mindfulness and meditation, with the concrete sciences, and in so doing, gives us an awareness that in order to succeed in parenting, marriage, or any other area of life we need to become mindful of the relationship and of our role in that relationship.

A great book by Kabat-Zinn, one which I am comfortable recommending to my clients is: Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness.
