Learning to Love and Get Along with Ourselves and Others

Baby Steps Are All that’s Needed

Baby steps, small changes, are all that’s needed.  Often clients come to me expecting big changes.  I advise them to make a small change.  Rather than striving for big changes, but getting none at all, most people are happy with some progress, any progress, regardless of how small that progress is.

When we come to be happy with the progress we make, we open ourselves up to being receptive for additional progress.  Once we succeed at that additional progress, again we open ourselves up for yet more progress.  The main thing is to recognize and appreciate the baby steps we make.  When we use the term baby steps we refer to small steps;  yet baby steps are of monumental proportions to the baby who takes them.

Moreover, we should recognize and appreciate that in areas of difficulty, any steps we take, no matter how small, are in fact of major significance.  Once we give ourselves credit for taking “baby” steps, the door will be swung open for much larger steps in the future.
